While we love Washington State Parks, there are some terrific National Forest CG and National Park CG's.
In this section we'll post about other campsites in the northwest including Army Corps, National Forest and National Parks, County and even some City Parks.
We had three different WA State Park reservations cancelled, so we decided to give the Army Corps of Engineers sites in WA and ID a try. We planned a two week swing across the state and into Idaho focusing on the Lewis & Clark expedition as our theme.
Ohanapecosh Campground (elevation 1,900 ft.) typically opens earlier and closes later than the other camping areas in Mount Rainier National Park. You won’t find the wide-open vistas here that you’ll find at sites further up the mountain, but old growth forest hikes are fantastic.
This forested campground is located near Early Winters Creek just off the North Cascades HWY 20, West of Mazama Wa. The campground has majestic trees with a cool stream and good hiking opportunities starting right from the campground. First come first served, but without water...we camped in site 17.
